Error creating and burning an ISO #161

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago

I have used your application to compile a simple dvd with just 1 Mpeg file.

It appeared to create the ISO correctly, however I can not play it in (VLC,
Xine etc), nor can I burn it to a disc.

The output from the terminal is as follows

stuart@Aspire-Ubuntu:~$ gxine "dvd://media/Expansion Drive/TUI 2012/W2 2011-12
Rushes/Feb 15th/Renders/REP Magic show 15th FEB.iso"
The program 'gxine' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install gxine
stuart@Aspire-Ubuntu:~$ xine "dvd://media/Expansion Drive/TUI 2012/W2 2011-12
Rushes/Feb 15th/Renders/REP Magic show 15th FEB.iso"

You are using a recent dvdauthor and an old tovid, so you are running into this
problem.
dvdauthor now requires the format to be known and no longer provides a default
or infers it.
If you do:
export VIDEO_FORMAT="ntsc" (or "pal") in the same terminal you run the command
to burn the disk it should work. In tovid 0.34 this api change is taken care
of, so in the future please use tovid 0.34 or newer.

all the best,
grepper

That's excellent thanks.

I only added Tovid to my system the day I had the issue, is this new
version in the repository that "Ubuntu Software Centre" uses, or
should I look elsewhere?

Not sure about Ubuntu. A quick google yields:
https://launchpad.net/~ferramroberto/+archive/natty
for a ppa that contains tovid 0.34

and a direct link to the debs if you don't feel like using apt:
https://launchpad.net/~ferramroberto/+archive/varie/+build/2646529

but I don't know if these are compatible with your ubuntu version.

You could also check up the 0.34 release source code by doing:
svn checkout http://tovid.googlecode.com/svn/release/tovid-0.34 tovid
and following the instructions for svn on the wiki:
http://tovid.wikia.com/wiki/Installing_tovid

Of course in the short term, just running:
export VIDEO_FORMAT="ntsc" (or ="pal") then rerunning 'tovid disc ... rest of
your commands' on the converted mpeg files should work fine.

all the best,
grepper
