What improvement do you want to Umple?
adding log4j as optional tracer for umple model oriented tracing language. 
Log4j was chosen because its a widely used logging tool.

How big, if any, do you expect the benefits of this to be to the software
engineering community?
very beneficial specially for log4j users. 

What parts of the system (that you are aware of) would need to change?
Grammar
Parser
Code generator - need to generate an XML log4j configuration file
tests to ensure quality

Done - latest log4j version (v2) is now being supported in MOTL
