Synaptics tochpad not being recognized at all #32

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Touchpad does not work

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It's expected to work as a replcement of a mouse. Instead it does not even work.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Ubuntu 10.04.01

Please provide any additional information below.
Affected model VPCS120FL

You need to provide some diagnostic details. At a minimum xorg.conf and an 
Xorg.0.log showing the failure.

Please attach the files, rather than inline them.

add:
i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop

to your grub.conf kernel line

touchpad now works and also appears to have solved suspend/resume problem 
somehow

Scratch the solving suspend/resume claim, not the case, just more frustrating 
random success/failure with resuming from suspend.

Above kernel params addition does fix touchpad not working, however, so folks 
who use the touchpad (not me) will benefit
