VPCF126FM Accelerometer Questions #47

I have assumed that my HDD was protected by an accelerometer on my laptop. I
recently viewed the FireFox 4.0 demos ( http://demos.mozilla.org ) and saw that
they had support for detecting device positioning (ie; it knows when you tilt
your laptop), but that it was failing to detect movement.

I have since been trying to determine the following:
-Does my device actually have a method of detecting movement?
--Is it an accelerometer that can be accessed, or is it built into the HDD?
--If it's an accelerometer, how can I ensure it's being used to protect my HDD
and how can I access the device within my system?

I tried installing HDAPS, but it tells me it is unable to find a device. The
HDAPS package states it's for IBM/Apple machines, though.

Is there anything else I can do?
