I updated to Mavarick now i boots into tty1 #55

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.OK I have a vaio vpcf122fx with nvidia Grafics card.  I had some problems at 
first, but i maneged them fine.
2.then I upgraded to Maverick and when I booted again I was in a tty1 terminal, 
no GUI.
3.tried installing drivers
4.alt, cont, f7 

I can't reinstall Ubuntu, there are important docs in that computer

I was on 10.04 going 10.10

I am not pro, i am good at following instructions.  Please help
