How to use effects like fadeIn/fadeOut?

I have a ajaxlink on my site that deletes an item in a list. 
When clicked, I want to trigger a fade and then call the onClick to repaint the 
list. 

Are there any examples or instructions on how to do this sort of thing using 
wiquery?

you are right! - I did not see the group to start with - i have posted there

Although maybe lack of docs is also an issue? so this can be reminder :)
