Full-Screen games not taking screenshots? #164

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
--What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open ZScreen 3.12.3.0Beta
2. Launch a full-screen game (in my case Dead Space).
3. Attempt to take a Screen Shot.

--What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: When I exit the game, to find the output folder full of full-size
screenshots of the game I was playing.

Actual result: Nothing. No screenshots in output folder.

--What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ZScreen 3.12.3.0 Beta on WindowS XP.

--Please provide any additional information below.
ZScreen takes images just fine of Windows things, but it takes no
screenshots of full-screen games. Since I installed ZScreen for the
singular purpose of taking large numbers of full-screen snapshots of Dead
Space in order to illustrate the Dead Space wiki, this presents a major
problem.

Devs, is our http://zscreen.googlecode.com/files/ZScreen-3.19.1.0-setup.exe
capable of
this requirement?

3.19.1.0 does not seem to be capable - I just tried it with Dead Space, and it
could
not capture images of the game when using the PrintScreen button to try and
take a
snapshot of the whole screen.

This is highly frustrating. I just need a simple "press button, get snapshot of
the
whole screen at full resoloution in specified output folder" mechanic, as Dead
Space
was not made with a Screenshot function (being a console port). Are there any
other
programs which are capable of meeting my requirements?

fraps http://www.fraps.com is specifically designed for this purpose
ShadowDragon8685.
See how you go with that.

Fraps is a commercial program, and I haven't got $37 to spare. (I could buy a
new
game to make screenshots of for that much money.) I did find another program
called
Screenshoter that appears to offer the functionality I want (it did
successfully take
test shots of Dead Space's menu screen.)

It's kind of a shame, since I liked zScreen's interface, except for it being
somewhat
unclear about how to simply do "save into a designated folder" functionality.

Paths where ZScreen saves data is in this tab:
http://imagebin.ca/img/i1bG_N.png

A custom directory could be set using the Advanced tab:
http://imagebin.ca/img/Ey80sf.png

It is only a matter time when ZScreen supports screenshots from DirectX based
application. Glad you found a workaround. :)
