OpenGL mouse interaction slow on Goobuntu #17

Mouse actions, especially selecting nodes, are very slow in the OpenGL
Goobuntu version.  It can take 5-10 seconds for a node selection to become
apparent in the ViewEditor.

This leads to some very awkward UI interactions, including delayed moves of
nodes off the viewable editor space.
