I guess this may be because the name table of the currently shipping fonts is not set up correctly.
Or because the Mac users used the VF version. In this cas, duplicate of #2886.
BTW, you really want to PR VF files without static directory, like #2889 or #2833?
@thlinard I am the user mentioned above. Thank you so far! But there is still no solution for our specific problem. I'd like to add more information about the problem: I installed the Google Fonts I am using on my Macbook, but when I send a PowerPoint file to my colleague who uses Windows, the font is shown with a type writer font. Same thing happens, when he opens a file I created on the server. Another font we use (Raleway) works. It is only the PlayFair Display font which creates issues. We both already installed the fonts again, but that didn't help. I also tried to install an older version which works for another colleague who is also using Mac. Unfortunately, that did not help either.
Maybe someone can help, thanks in advance!

Hi @actum-wol,
Hi @thlinard
1. I am sorry, I can not answer this, because I do not understand what it means
On https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Playfair+Display, you have a button "Download family", which gives you a "Playfair_Display.zip" archive. In the archive, you have 4 files (2 text files and 2 font files: PlayfairDisplay-Italic-VariableFont_wght.ttf and PlayfairDisplay-VariableFont_wght.ttf) and a static folder, containing 12 font files.
Have you installed the -VariableFont _ . ttf files or the files from the "static" folder, or both?

I installed the VF files, not the ones from the static folder.

I installed the .tff files, not the ones from the static folder.
OK. Could you delete the installed files, download the zip archive again (the generation process was recently changed), and this time install only the static files?

Yes, i did. And my colleague should do the same?

Yes, although it's less important with MS Office for Windows than with the Mac version.

Hi @actum-wol,
- Are you using the VF or static version?
- Where exactly do your fonts come from? What site?
- Did your colleague install the exact same file?
Hi there, I installed the static version of the font and I have this 3 variants of the font that aren't working:
I'm on Windows 10 Home, version 10.0.19041, and Office 365 for business.
Then tried installing VF version (first removing static version and the installing VF), and got 1 variant not working:

Thanks a lot! That was the problem. Would have been easier to see if I had both - a Macbook and a Windows device.
Well, because of #3267 the VF version of Playfair Display can't work properly (@yanone is the current assignee), and because of #2616 the static version can't either (nobody working on it).
I suggest to download the fonts from the upstream repository: https://github.com/clauseggers/Playfair-Display
