I agree - it would also be good specify your own color scheme for the circle points,
using hex codes.

In fact, there are some potential uses of a motion chart for which the ability to
set the colour for a given series is almost essential to its comprehensibility ...
particularly where the colours are already very strongly associated with each series
in the users' experience (e.g., political parties are well-known by their colours,
as would be some companies).
This current gap is preventing me from implementing the following test on my website
until I can set and fix the colours as follows: Lib = ff0000, NDP = ff6600, Grn =
999900, BQ = 3366ff, Cons = 0000ff.

Thank you in advance for your interest in making this enhancement.

This is a very important feature for Motion Chart. In particular, if I am using multiple
displays of the same data, being able to control color from one figure to the next
is essential for effective presentation.

Totally agree. For us it is a show stopper not being able to set colours to reference
external items that are categorised by color. would be a really nice enhancement

I really need to be able to pick my own colorscale (green on top, red in bottom, blue
and yellow in middle)

I completely agree - not being able to choose the colors for each category, and so make
them consistent from chart to chart, and with ready-made color associations for particular
categories, hugely limits the usefulness of the tool.
e.g. Rosling's presentations would not have been anwhere near as effective had he not
had control of colour choices.

We would be glad, if we could choose our own colours. For presentations the standard-colours
are not all visible for the audience (e.g. bright yellow).
