Include US Counties as region

What would you like to see us add to this API?
I like how I can create a thematic map symbolizing state polygons.  I would
like to do the same thing with county polygons.
Two example usages:
1) When viewing a particular state, I would like to symbolize the counties
according to a disease incidence rate.  
2) When viewing the entire country, I want the option to either symbolize
the entire state in a single color from a data value, OR also show the
counties symbolized according to their data values.

What component is this issue related to (PieChart, LineChart, DataTable,
Query, etc)?
GeoMap, IntensityMap

I think it is a good idea, but we need to find a way to name Counties in a formal way.
Provinces are named using ISO 3166-2, but counties have no canonical name.

All U.S. Counties have an associated FIPS Code which may serve this purpose. The referenced
document http://www.itl.nist.gov/fipspubs/co-codes/states.txt contains a list of state
and county fips codes, which when concatenated form a unique 5 digit identifier.

Yes, sorry, I should have thought to reply with this information earlier.  The 5 digit
FIPS code is how Federal agencies reference the counties.

This is apparently the same as a later issue 243. I posted there but wanted to mention
it here as well: http://publications.newberry.org/ahcbp/ has KML and GIS files for
historical boundaries of the counties in the US. I believe the site has county boundaries
listed for times into the early 2000s. The maps and data re under a Creative Commons
Non-commercial agreement though so I'm not certain they are usable. The counties have
FIPS codes where applicable.

I ended up going with Geoserver/PostGIS serving WMS using a gmap basemap to get thematics
for county and zip.  There's some other stuff like MapBox and ArcGIS Online that can
get you there too.  Wish it was in gmap though.
