No longer getting placeholders #48

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. setting appointment in google
2. confirming sync services run properly
3. checking for appointment placeholder in Outlook

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
a place holder message in outlook calendar

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
exchange 2003 sp2, newest version 1.3.1 of calendar connector kit, Outlook 2010

Please provide any additional information below.

Good Morning Jaideep,

I am working with CloudSherpas on our corporate migration to Google Apps for
Business. (SNL.com)

Using the google calendar connectors, we have happily had an instance of the
sync service using the appointment writer mode in place.

Recently this stopped putting "placeholders" in our exchange calendars. We
have upgraded the Kit to the new version 1.3.1....

can you give me any insight as to whether the "appointment writer" mode has
been deprecated? or has something else changed?

please help.
Thanks,
*Hank Bowry*

Yes, appointment writer has been deprecated. We suggest not to use it, as it
was not supported. If you still want to use it you can switch back to older
binary.

so if Appointment writer is deprecated...is there a way to use the
"placeholder" feature with SchedulePlus?

No. GCC is only for free/busy lookup.

Is there any other way of getting Outlook 2010 to lookup free/busy info from
Google Apps?

Hi Ryan,

Please check the Wiki on this page and the "Query free/busy information for
Exchange users" section in
http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?answer=148484

If the Outlook user is on Exchange, Outlook should be able to query Google Apps
free/busy via the synced free/busy data (that was synced from Google to
Exchange via the Google Calendar Connector Sync Service), and if the user is a
Google Apps user that's using Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GASMO),
you should set it up in the registry (as describe in the article linked above)
and GASMO will query Google Calendar Connector's Web Service.

If you need further assistance, please see http://contact.googleapps.com/.

Unfortunately this method actually doesn't work with Outlook 2010, as mentioned
above.
The guide specifies that users need to no longer have Exchange mailboxes for
the lookup to happen, but in testing we found this to not work either.
The problem is that Outlook 2010 doesn't appear to be reading the public
folder, but instead reads the users' calendars, which have incorrect info.
The placeholder functionality, though deprecated, allowed Outlook 2010 users on
Exchange to lookup f/b info for Google Apps.

That said, it should be noted that Outlook 2003 users do not have issues with
either scenario.
