Shadowing around dropdown menu #35

This is more of a question than an issue. I'm having difficulty determining what code is allowing for shadowing around the dropdown menu itself (such as shown on the demo). Can this be done without using paper-shadow for instance?

The paper-menu-button already includes a shadow. It uses paper-shadow to get the unified material design shadow values, but it can conceivably use some other method.
