Atkinson UI version

Atkinson Hyperlegible Regular is quite heavy on the eyes for fine print and small UI elements.

Possibly, toying with these elements for a UI variant could help:

• lighter line weight
• leaner versions of wider characters (like numbers)
• shorter serifs where heavily exaggerated (like "q")

It'd be nice to have a version that might be applied anywhere without being harder on the eyes and weird looking, from system fonts for the UI, to elements of various softwares.

also see: hinting! some of the characters in the font look ever so slightly blurrier than e.g. Inter or Roboto at small sizes

@CapoFantasma97 The font was never meant to be an ongoing thing, it was a font commissioned by The Braille Institue for thier 100 year anaversery (I believe thats what it was for, at least).

The pro version has support for 90+ languages improved kerning, a reversed number zero. Atkinson Hyperlegible Pro will become a live ongoing project with future plans for a variable version

As long as it reamins true to its goal of being an ultra easy to read typeface im all for it! ~~What kerning stuff did you change? ~~

Also the zero was chosen to be backslahed to prevent confusing with the danish ø. If its an altnerate version and not the default I think thats fine though.

EDIT: Ahh I see you kept a detailed log of chances, nice! That addressed both immedite concerns!

@tryoxiss I am aware of the reasons for the backslash zero and it remains as it is, a reversed zero was included as an optional zero. When Atkinson Hyperlegible is paired with a monospaced font many of them have a forward slash which creates a cognitive dissonance problem. An option reversed zero was created for this purpose.

There is a kern Log many of the decisions were made to fix the overspaced kerning the original has as in the case with words such as “SYSTEM” in italics the S and the Y have too much spacing between each letter

Atkinson Hyperlegible was intended to be legible hence the name "Hyperlegible" and not necessarily readable.

It was also created to be readable... and it succeeds at that very well. Yeah bolded glyphs could do with a bit more spacing at small sizes and italics arent always the best but its a ton more readable than most fonts, and better looking too (at least in my opinion). I certinly would appreciate the cleanups you want to do with pro, I just want to make sure it dosen't lose its goal in the process.

Yeah its a bit bigger than other spacings but not a noticeable amount unless your looking for it.

@tryoxiss Thanks for being passionate for this project, I myself want to remain as faithful to the original typeface while still being able to improve it as much as I can with out loosing the aim of legibility. I also love this typeface and I agree with you its better looking than other fonts. I have created a page in the project website for checking the kerning of the font. The best way to make sure this project dose not loose its goal is to contribute this is a font for everyone and everyone is welcome to contribute.

Thanks for the confirmation, I have been burned so many times by people taking a project I am passionate about and steering it away from its goal, so its nice to hear that wont be the case here!
