Letters x and χ should look different #223

Open brawer opened 7 years ago

Currently, the letters x and χ look identical in Roboto. This is a problem when rendering phonetic text, because [x] stands for the voiceless velar fricative whereas [χ] is uvular. For example, in IPA tests you’ll find both [plɪxt] and [ˈkɾɑχtəχ].

This is a duplicate of https://github.com/google/roboto/issues/18, which is fixed in Android but not the webfont which is outdated.

Uhm, why is the webfont not getting updated? (Tell me if I should file a separate bug for that).

Not sure. You would probably want to file the bug at https://github.com/google/fonts and/or ask @davelab6 and co.

As one of the most popular families we take great care to update it and I'm not sure all hotfixes applied last time are applied to the latest release, so it's pending.
