Looks worst then Roboto #349

When switching from vanila Roboto to Roboto Flex on Firefox, Chrome, Libre Office oa any app in windows, the results are worst. Roboto is know for being clear, but Roboto Flex looks jagged and chaotic in comparison. Some letters like "c", "e", "s" stick out because they seem to aligned horizontally. In this section there is one "t" that even looks different from all other "t" in the paragraph.

Could this be the result of an absence of hinting in variable fonts?

Variable fonts can have hints, and bad ones too;). The t issue is the thing most curious to me. This specimen used what rendering, in which version, of what browser, on what hardware please? …and it’s easier to check with a design space location. Is this wght400, wdth100, opzs14 please?

“letters like "c", "e", "s" stick out because they seem to aligned horizontally.” Please clarify “aligned horizontally”. Those letters are not sticking out to me.

Please also show Roboto looking different from Flex on these issues, or let us know how to do so with answers to above.

Thanks so much for your help.

Firefox 100.0, Windows 11, Surface Pro 7. No idea about wght400, wdth100, opzs14 because it is just set as Roboto Flex in Firefox App.

I have included the version with Roboto. image
