Is it worth considering this for a new project? How does it fare against the LWRP?

I just tried this and I wouldn't recommend it, no matter what you do the colours come out super muddy.

Could any of the maintainer's comment?

Even a message to say "Yes. We still monitor Github issues" would be reassuring.
