v3.0.2 Wont Start #211

Closed AngelAzyre closed 2 years ago

AngelAzyre commented 2 years ago

Describe the bug Bots will not start, upon clicking "Start" it says 3/3 URL Quota is full please contact xxxx. Works great on v3.0.1 (prior to update). I only use the bot on this computer so it shouldn't be a licensing issue despite the error message. Tried on a different computer on a different IP address and I still get the same issue, so I really dont think its a licensing thing as it says.

Did some additional testing; if I use a completely different computer on a different IP--a fresh download (turn off internet) then start the bot I still get this error so I really don't think its a licensing issue.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1.) Start the .exe 2.) Type a random channel. 3.) Add some proxies (or just type random text in because this apparently doesnt even matter). 4.) Click start and see the error.

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Okay so after a lot more testing I was able to get this to work on another one of my desktops, I can't quite tell why. Is there any dependencies or something I may be missing?

I don't want to sound too negative or offensive; that's not my intention. Above all, I am grateful to Mr. Görkem for his work on the project.

I believe the author is trying to monetize the program hardcore. Even more so than before. (It had sponsored Webshare, and sponsored Vultr links already.)

There was no 3 limit before the 3.0 version, and now the Github source is also just broken - you can't compile the program yourself anymore. I understand they want to make money, but this opens a new door to a whole boatload of legal trouble by creating a paid program. The only way to get the 3.0 version is to go on the website and grab the binary directly, and that's it. The Github, at this point, is just for show.

Best part? The monetization is not even complete. It keeps telling you about the limit of 3, but there is no way to purchase, increase the limit, or anything.

I understand the creator wants to get rich from this or something. But.

Were the sponsored links not enough? Couldn't you just set up a Patreon/Buymeacoffee or something to let people support your work? I seriously believe this aggressive monetization is dangerous to you. :/

  • No amount of money they will collect forcefully will be enough to battle Twitch / other providers in court since now it's a paid, monetized, hard $$$ botting application.
  • No sane person will ever trust a closed source, proprietary, binary piece of software that has logging embedded. No offense.

Were the sponsored links not enough? Couldn't you just set up a Patreon/Buymeacoffee or something to let people support your work? I seriously believe this aggressive monetization is dangerous to you. :/

Yeah I see your point, I actually bought the Webshare service through their sponsorship link. I don't intend on spending anymore money though especially for something that should simply just work. I absolutely love this program and the fact it is free but it has gotten progressively more restrictive since v3.0. I just want to use it, not to make some grand enterprise of bots that I charge money for, if I was to do that I would just make my own program that fits my needs. Even if I kept an old download of a previous version it doesn't even matter as it simply force updates on startup now without the prompt like it used to have back in like v2.9 (I think).

I believe the project owner should return to the roots. If anything, the project should have a Wiki, letting people know how to set up their Vultr VMs and use the proxy website. The sponsorship is 100% fine, and I believe everyone will use it because most people have no idea what a proxy or server is.

But not this forced, super shady thing. That said, not much we can do about this.

winkeyeblind commented 2 years ago

I'm assuming the addition to the new Contributor is the reason why this has become a shady monetization thing. Nothing wrong with having sponsored links, but the program doesn't even run as well as it used to before these recent patches. The worst part is that I donated to the project as I respect the original efforts, but now I have no problem reporting this if the forced monetization doesn't get removed. Nothing worse like feeling scammed.

gorkemhacioglu commented 2 years ago

@papayayooo @AngelAzyre @winkeyeblind I am not trying to monetize this app. I am trying to block some guys who sell this application and make money. I already started to create a denylist.

3 URL is enough for personal use.

If you have some other solution, I will be glad to hear. @papayayooo @AngelAzyre @winkeyeblind

Tell me one of your old URLs, and I can reset it for one time.

You can send one of your old URL to gorkem(at)haciog.lu

When did you donate to me? Tell me the date and I will return it to you. Looked at my PayPal account but couldn't find anything... If I want to monetize it hardcore, I would add a link that you can buy or price plans. I already reset some accounts because I believed they are using this app for themselves. I repeat; I am trying to block people who try to make money with this free app. 3 URL is enough for personal use.

In reality I don't think I have a good solution to offer. My personal opinion is that it should be free without restriction but you manually create a deny list if you find someone using your application for profit. The current system makes it way too easy to lock yourself out of using the application.

I suppose a way to look at it is that a 3 strikes your out sort of thing is something both individuals for personal use and a business can easily hit accidentally. If someone is selling this as a service they would do way more than 3 so maybe adjusting the threshold to a larger number like 10 would resolve most peoples issues? As if someone is selling this they would hit that limit easily if you understand what I am getting at. Once they are locked out they are locked out and the current system is great at keeping it that way so I wouldn't see the harm in increasing the limit.

EDIT: Also maybe you could create a system to obtain a free license with data tracking that allows unrestricted uses. But if a detection (of selling for profit) is made the license is revoked and you are put on the ban list. I would say this could be optional as you are opting into data tracking if you apply the license. The license could easily be randomly generated through the website by putting in say your email and/or a few other details. https://forscan.org/ has a good licensing system they use, for free personal use that is locked to one system with data tracking. If a user wants to swap computers they simply put the change request into the website and their license is automatically swapped to the new mac id.

papayayooo commented 2 years ago

Damn @gorkemhacioglu that sucks. The part where people tried to steal your work. What about the license? Can't you use a proper license and threaten these parties? I've seen this happen, like people put open-source projects for money on Microsoft Store. In the past they did the same, just with CDs. They burnt software like OpenOffice on CD and sold them for $$$ at stores. Ridiculous.

I agree with @AngelAzyre regarding license generation, that could work. But then again, see my next section.

For the proprietary part - not having source code is the problem. The project is great, and it was working great, but this is a gray-area after all. Even if we were to blindly trust a .exe file, who is to say people's detail won't end up on a server, with default password where it will leak onto the internet in plaintext? It's just a trust, data handling nightmare. Not trying to be offensive at all, or be disrespectful. Huge kudos to Mr. Görkem. But you get what I mean.

Ps. Please add Github sponsorship + Crypto/Paypal donations to your profile @gorkemhacioglu at least. Even if it was not your intention to break the bank, maybe some extra funds can help you set up a sensible environment.
