Tabbed interface for multiple python shells #177

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
The tabbed interface for multiple python consoles has disappeared. I really
liked it, and I don't like the current interface (which does not give me an
overview of the running consoles, does not give any indication on which console
I'm looking at and makes me click twice instead of once in order to switch
consoles.

Can we have the old style back? Or could there be a setting to choose the
style? (a convincing answer about why the new method is superior would probably
suffice too, but I guess it it's hard to convince me on this topic...)

Due to a bug in Qt on the Mac, the tabbar could not be used in DockWidgets.
(You'd get a segfault when trying to move the widget).

I agree that the current interface is a bit clumsy. I'm not so sure about
having an overview, since most people will use just one shell. There are use
cases where it can be handy though...

Would perhaps be nice to get a unified solutions for different shells: Python
shells, the logger shell, and a console (see issue 152).
