Feature request: include some kind of indication that a file that is opened can't be written #59

When opening a file, it would be good if there was an indication that the user (probably) doesn't have permission to write the file. This will prevent situations in which the user edits the file only to discover that they are doing it as the wrong user and can't write the file.
