Previously-working installs now timing out when trying to execute commands #609

Describe the bug

I have two different installs of gphoto2 on two different Ubuntu desktops that have been functioning autonomously for a couple of years. Since this fall, both have been frequently failing to operate. gphoto2 --version will return the current version number (gphoto2 2.5.28, libgphoto2 2.5.31, libgphoto2_port 0.12.2). gphoto2 --auto-detect will return the connected camera (Sony Alpha-A7S II (Control) usb:001,002). But any command to read or change camera settings or take a picture will time out and fail. Example command: gphoto2 --get-config iso or gphoto2 --capture-image-and-download. Rebooting the computer does not fix the issue. If i have someone at the remote site power the camera off/on and unplug/replug the USB cable it will sometimes start working again, sometimes not. When it does resume working, it will only last for 2-3 days until it fails again. I've tried changing the USB port on the computer, replacing the USB cable, and replacing the camera.

Name the camera Sony Alpha-A7S II (Control) usb:001,002

This is still happening. I've replaced the cameras, replaced the cables, replaced the computers, and tried a new OS (EndeavourOS).
