When I shape a track, sometimes I need to alternatively change from "Routing" to "As the crow flies". Showing or not showing the "Chevrons" or the "Distance markers" is the same type of tool you can use punctually and/or alternatively. And because you began to migrate some icons that are not obvioulsy related to elevation profile window, I was thinking that these 2 others could also migrate. Regarding the "Trace color" tool, I don't think that thes 2 options need to be validated by a popup window as they are only punctual switches like hide/unhide, so I would obviously suggest to put them as new icons in the left menu and would appear as more natural for the UX.
The icons I migrated are options which affect the routing so they deserved to be more visible (a lot of people were not aware that they were different routing modes). I feel like the distance markers and chevrons are a much less important feature, so placing them there is not logical to me. We could however add a shortcut to toggle them easily, for advanced users like you.
Too bad because I do think that the less clicks or moves the more natural UX, but shortcuts will be a progress
I agree with you, but the UI should also be divided in coherent groups. Anyway, the interface is always changing so maybe in the future, there will be a better opportunity to relocate those options.
I am sure that a new future interface will be able to make our visions converging ;-)
I also would like keyboard shortcuts. I particularly would like one for "delete all inside selection", since sometimes I use this several times in a row to trim a route. Then I could also just leave the mouse cursor on the route, rather than moving back and forth from the "delete" icon to the route. Thanks for a great open source product, though, it is wonderful as it is!
Thank you for your suggestion, I have re-implemented the website from scratch and added that to the future version. For now the shortcuts are F3 and F4 but this can be easily changed. You can check that out here: https://gpx.studio/gpx.studio/ and provide feedback on this new repository: https://github.com/gpxstudio/gpx.studio.
I always saw these 2 options as "layers" so it was logical to put them with the map options. However, I can understand why it could not be intuitive. Yet, I don't like the idea of putting them in the elevation profile window.
Another option is to put them inside the "trace color" tool. What do you think?
