Rough Steps - Python

Go to the Python downloads page and download the newest version by clicking the button at the top of the page
Run the installer you just downloaded
Click the checkbox for "Add Python 3.7 to PATH"
Click the "Install Now" button, clicking yes to all the security pop ups
Open a cmd window
Check that python was installed by typing python --version, expected output is Python 3.x.x, where "x" is the version numbers
Update your python package manager by typing python -m pip install --upgrade pip into cmd
Install ipython by typing pip install ipython
You can now start using Python, type ipython on the command line to open an ipython interpreter.

Rough Steps - Pycharm

Go to the Pycharm downloads page and download the Community version of Pycharm.
Run the installer you just downloaded, accepting the security prompts
Proceed through the installer, and on the "Installation Options" menu, select the checkbox for "64-bit desktop launcher", "Add launchers dir to the PATH", "Create Associations (.py)", and "Download and install JRE x86 by JetBrains"
Proceed through the rest of the installer
Once it's done installing, choose to reboot later (or now if it's convenient)
Run Pycharm from your Desktop or Start Menu
Choose the option to not import any settings
Agree to the Privacy Policy
Choose whether to send usage statistics, depending on your preference
Select your preferred color theme
If you're familiar with Vim-style keybindings, I highly recommend installing the "IdeaVim" plugin
Install the "Markdown" plugin for easier editing of your documentation files
Click "Start using Pycharm"
You can now start using Pycharm

Go to the Visual Studio Code downloads page and download the Stable Build of Visual Studio Code
Run the installer, clicking through security prompts
Run VS Code once installed
Click "View" and "Extensions" from the menu bar
Type in "python" in the search bar that appears on the side
Click the green "Install" button for the "Python" plugin, validating that the author name is Microsoft
You can now start using VS Code
