It only affects developers, because for distributions, we will provide the
.c file.  So, I think we should mark this as 'wontfix', and put it up on a
"Known Bugs" page.  Thoughts?

Late last week I independently encountered the same problem, I'm almost certain 
this 
is a bug in setuptools. Chris and I have just talked about this, we second your 
proposal.

By the way, have you perchance notified the setuptools upstream?

We should check to see if this is fixed in Distribute, the new "official" fork 
of
setuptools by Tarek Ziade.  We should also switch the buildbots over to using
Distribute... hmm.
