Description of the changes

Finally fixes #152. I omitted some places in FS, which Paweł is now rewriting, to avoid conflicts.

How to test this PR?

Just review + CI.

For the record: apps.LTP.fsync02 timed out on Jenkins-Debug-20.04 once, but it seems unrelated (other LTPs are also timing out from time to time on other pipelines).
