Woops, I really thought this would be pretty clear :)
The guy on top is you and all your personal devices connect to your personal Grand Decentral Station and use it as a hub / personal cloud to sync data, etc. Your Station connects to the Stations of other users – your friends, family, coworkers, in general people you trust. And those Stations of course are connected to the personal devices of their owners. It's basically just a graph that shows the distributed network of multiple Grand Decentral Stations. I left the array of devices out for all your connections, because I thought that should be obvious :) Maybe I need to rethink this graph a bit.
that makes it clear now, thanks :) Maybe an unobtrusive sentence below the graphic to clarify the graphic for the rest of us? No biggie though
Well, I agree 100%. The site is a very quick hack I did last week to have something online before my talk at border:none. I didn't really expect that there are already so many people participating and reading that stuff :)
the guy
We should find a more generic “person” there. It would suck if only men were to use GDS.
Haha, I absolutely didn't mean that in a way to exclude women. I should have written the user, the person or whatever. To be honest this was somehow more a fault of my rather sloppy English.
@bastianallgeier no worries, I understand what you mean, I’m just waving the flag for inclusiveness for future actions and graphics :)
I absolutely agree that this project must not be allowed to rot in our men-dominated open-source world and be even targeted at the same. It's a bit melodramatic, but to quote Tim Berners-Lee: This is for everyone :)
I thought the icon is pretty neutral though to be honest.
you can quote me TBL any time :) especially the “this is for everyone” quote :)
@bastianallgeier sure looks like “neutral” to a white male with short hair :) I can't claim anyone feels not included by this, it’s just that I want to make sure we cover sensitivity for this from the very beginning.
Neutral as in "even Apple uses it as their user settings icon"
args, please, I am not arguing the specific icon :)
dude, I'm joking. we are totally on the same page here :)
ok :)
I've a question regarding the setup graphic on the website
Is the dude on top representing a GDS user? And the dudes on bottom are the developers? Or the other way around? And why are there two levels of GDS?
Maybe you can clarify that a bit? Or maybe it's just me pre-coffee?
