make a widget that says "Donate" instead of "Gittip" #10

The @Gittip guys should consider creating a widget with the text “Donate”. Gittip doesn’t mean anything to those unfamiliar with the brand

@deadwisdom started on this at the PyCon sprints. His AI file is in the root of this repo:

Thanks Chad. These buttons looks pretty awesome.

What is the brand font for gittip? Is it crucial to use your brand font, using a more generic font could allow developers to customize the text on the button using markup (ala Twitter's tweet/follow buttons).

loopj commented 11 years ago

For some background, here's why I made that tweet:

I am SO HAPPY! Perfect!!! Seriously, put a tip jar on your webpage.

Well, I actually do have gittip on my website (http://loopj.com/jquery-simple-slider/).

Well, you can do pretty much whatever you want. Check out @maxogden's:

The font in our logo is Edmondsans, but @deadwisdom's AI doesn't use it.

chadwhitacre commented 11 years ago

I was thinking "Give Back" might be a good phrase to use.

rubiii commented 11 years ago

"Give Back" sounds great to me.

chadwhitacre commented 11 years ago

@duckinator is working on this:

duckinator commented 11 years ago

Yup! I'll look into reworking the text a bit. :)

@whit537 I just figured out how to import AI files into Inkscape, so I'm going to switch to the new logo soon, too.

rubiii commented 11 years ago

are you guys planning for a static badge people can put on their github readme's as well?

duckinator commented 11 years ago

I am not currently making one, but I would certainly like one. Perhaps along the lines of the one @whit537 posted a screenshot of a ways up?

rubiii commented 11 years ago

already asked @maxogden on twitter if i could use this badge. would be great to know if people can use it.

chadwhitacre commented 11 years ago

@rubiii Saw your repost on Twitter. There's a ticket about this in the main repo (created before we split widgets into a separate repo): https://github.com/gittip/www.gittip.com/issues/21.

rubiii commented 11 years ago

@whit537 i read it, but i can't find a response saying whether it can or can not be used. am i missing something?

rubiii commented 11 years ago

@whit537 regardless of whether i missed something or not, here's his response. so it's ok. not sure if you still consider using it though.

chadwhitacre commented 11 years ago

@rubiii It's not going to be an official button that we advertise on the Gittip site like we do with the existing widgets, because the branding is off (colors, font, logo, and spelling of Gittip are wrong). I'm perfectly happy with users making their own buttons, though.

rubiii commented 11 years ago

@whit537 ok. thanks.

Hey all, just a heads-up that we're consolidating Gittip issues in the www.gittip.com repo issue tracker:

https://github.com/gittip/www.gittip.com/issues

I'm closing these tickets and turning off the issue tracker over here.
