would be great if users can configure the default time frame "search in the last 5 minutes"

Try to see if change impact of using local storage in 0.20.0 would be sufficient to ease the pain.

Will this feature make it in v1.0 or will it be delayed?

edmundoa commented 9 years ago

No, unfortunately it will not be part of v1.0.

Please please implement this!

Right now the experience is terrible for any user - new or experienced - except those rare cases when only the last 5 minutes of a stream is possibly relevant. The normal use case is that 8-48 hours are important. Thus, all new users are forced to learn how the search works and all users - both new and experienced - are forced to use it every single time.

A new user sees something unexpected as they check their stream (error 'no messages' or too few messages), and they are made to THINK and figure out the search.

A frequent user doesn't have to think, but he/she has two clicks more anytime they enter a stream.

Making the default timespan configurable is a very simple change.

Side issue: On a custom startpage, the search is one hour by default (not 5 minutes). Whatever the reason for this, my argument applies also here. Please also make this timespan as customizable as the universal search timespan.
