I just restored my laptop to factory original conditions. THis gives a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04 on a Dell XPS13. I then tried to install HackRF again. All I can get is "hackrf_open() failed: Input/Output Error (-1000)." The HackRF works fine on my Windows 10 machine but it would benice to get it working on a Linux box, if that is possible.
THE UNIVERSE IS TRYING TO TEACH ME HOW TO DEAL WITH FRUSTRATION
H:ere is what I've done since the new Ubuntu install:
ghidora@ghidora:~$ sudo apt install hackrf
[sudo] password for ghidora:

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:

I'm giving up on this approach and starting over with a new issue.
Steps to reproduce
ALL I WANT IS A SET OF INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING HACKRF (AND THEN GNURADIO) ON A UBUNTU 18.04 MACHINE. It only took an hour or so to do both on WIndows 10 where they work fine, but I've spent 3 days on trying to do it on Linux - and unlike Linux, I have absolutely NO Windows development experience.
Expected behaviour
ghidora@ghidora:~$ sudo hackrf_info hackrf_info version: unknown libhackrf version: unknown (0.5) Found HackRF Index: 0 Serial number: 000000000000000087c867dc2908665f Board ID Number: 2 (HackRF One) Firmware Version: 2017.02.1 (API:1.02) Part ID Number: 0xa000cb3c 0x005e474a
Actual behaviour
ghidora@ghidora:~$ hackrf_info hackrf_info version: unknown libhackrf version: unknown (0.5) Found HackRF Index: 0 hackrf_open() failed: Input/Output Error (-1000)
