Thanks for the additional context, @nsinai! With the site refresh, we can better focus on keeping this area up-to-date with the latest commitments. Suggest cutting some of the non-evergreen text, and really focusing on the current status.
"Today, [XYZ] million households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility."
@jateeter -- can you confirm the XYZ?
That makes sense!

Assigning this to @jateeter
For this, we need to expand it to companies and utilities. Lets finalize here. Suggestion (don't love it):
Today, [XYZ] million households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility, and an ecosystem of companies building tools to help make that data useful.
Thoughts @nsinai?
Would read a bit better with something to join the two parts together. Maybe something like:
Today, [XYZ] million households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility, and an ecosystem of companies are building tools to help make that data useful.
(not a huge fan of "to help make that data useful". Think it needs a bit more jazz, will think though)
I’m ok with “help make the data useful”, at least for now.
Other permutations:
Today, [XYZ] million households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility, and a growing set of companies are offering products, services, and apps that use Green Button data.
or
Today, [XYZ] million households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility, and can use their Green Button data in a growing set of energy apps and services.

Hey all,
Lets go with @nsinai's first suggestion with one small edit (unless we get final numbers before launch):
Today, tens of millions households and businesses can use Green Button to access their own energy usage data from their electric utility, and a growing set of companies are offering products, services, and apps that use Green Button data.
It's updated if folks want to see it: http://green-button.github.io/
Currently it says:
"Forty two million households and businesses have access to Green Button, 57 million will have access by the end of 2014"
This isn't quite accurate for a couple of reasons. First, this was the public statement in Dec:
"as of December 2013, that 48 utilities and electricity suppliers serving more than 59 million homes and businesses have committed to enable their customers with “Green Button” access to help them save energy and shrink their bills. Of these, over 42 million household and business customers (reaching well over 100 million Americans) already have access to their Green Button energy data."
With additional commitments being unveiled very shortly, these numbers will change upwards, probably by a few million.
Second, it's not necessarily true that by the end of 2014 will be when every committed utility will implement.
Third, it's not quite clear -- and we've heard this confusion before -- that Green Button is how customers can access their own energy usage data from the utility (typically a customer portal, or online account).
It's a little bit wordier, which is always dangerous, but I'd suggest something like:
"Today, X million households and businesses can access their own energy usage data from their electric utility via Green Button – and thanks to additional commitments from industry, that’s projected to rise to Y million households and businesses."
If we need to keep it short, we could cut "thanks to additional commitments from industry,"
