The layout of the PDF and the HTML could benefit from a better template (and font stack). This a totally minor point, but it might help to attract new people.

Definitely agreed. I think the new redone default theme is significantly cleaner and more consistent. Once done with the heavier functionality work (namely the plugins), I was also going to make a few extra themes with different styles, including a more traditional serif, "elegant" look, like this or this.

Aesthetics are often considered a minor point, but I do believe it influences people on a subconscious level and affects usage in various ways over the long run.

@vincerubinetti your works helps us a lot with this comment. I suggest that you continue working on your front end improvements and re-organization as planned and then we summarize the updates in the response to reviewers and this manuscript. The themes and plugin organization should be described in the paper.

I assigned @vincerubinetti because his pull request #168 already addresses this.

I'd say this can probably be closed. It's a somewhat subjective thing, obviously, but I think the new theme addresses the "stale" look. Aesthetic appeal is always on the front of my mind when developing things, and it's also a never-ending/on-going thing, so it probably doesn't need to be tracked in an issue (assuming you feel the new theme gets us most of the way there).

Yes. We could also link https://github.com/manubot/rootstock/issues/189 or https://github.com/manubot/rootstock/issues/192 in the response letter to show where we are going next with aesthetics.
