upgrade all packages. namely, react to 18 and rc-slider to 10 (good improvement there).
remove "stale" request state, and use cleaner pattern for de-duping requests per new react docs
don't autoplay neighbors viz (autoplaying starts the url changing immediately which is annoying, and the viz is at the bottom anyway)
make use of new useId hook in react 18, get rid of custom hook
modify index entry point for react 18
