cannot resume game or start new game -- stuck on Refresh screen #218

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.  Start a game
2.  Leave the app
3.  Return to the game
4.  Choose "Start Game" from the menu
5.  See the "Refresh" screen

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
If I click "Refresh", I expect either to resume my earlier game or to see a 
message telling me I can't resume my earlier game.  If I click "Cancel" and 
then select "Start Game" again, I expect to see the New Game screen.  Instead, 
I see the "Refresh" screen instead.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

If I choose "Quit" from the menu, I can start a new game.

I'll let someone else decide whether this is actually an issue.

I suspect the app got kicked out of memory. As far as I know, there is no 
persistence layer in the app. someone please de-merge this task if I'm wrong.
