Possibly write a bash script that could run using processx and will run from the python side of things? Basically it would try out an installation process, restart R, test to see if it worked, and if it didn't, then try the next known combination of possible installs
At the end of that it would provide a log file with all the possible installation configurations it tried, and the results of each of those installation attempts
This could be an R process that runs and then keep iterating through installations until it works? Feels potentially a bit over-engineered! But it could be a fun way to do it.
