neardrop doesnt work on some networks

When I am at home neardrop works perfectly but on my network at school my mac doesnt show up on my phone as a device i can nearby share.

That's expected. Public networks, like in hotels, coffee shops, and schools, are often set up to block local devices from communicating with each other, only allowing access to the internet. To bypass this NearDrop would need to implement one of the alternative "mediums" but the choice is meh:

• Bluetooth would work but it's slow
• Wi-Fi direct would not really work satisfactorily because macOS doesn't support it. You can use it as a client but that would require the mac to disconnect from the network it's currently connected to, which is not something most users would expect
• The remaining technologies, like some kind of peer-to-peer 5G connection (not supported by any Android devices I own), or more WiFi-based stuff, are even more arcane, so chances of using them on macOS range from none (due to plain lack of required hardware components) to extremely unlikely (messing with low-level 802.11 stuff and kernel-mode code is not something I'm prepared to do)
