DS template test, survey, analytics

With a new suggested template for the DS system, we'd like to see if it is easier and more helpful to our users.

Tasks:

• [ ] Developers create the examples for the character counter as well as the do's and don'ts sections of the "form" guidance that we are close to publishing. Add the interactive visual for the Do's and Don'ts! This is critical for it to be not rejected by users. All feedback will be pretty negative if we have only a long To-Do list with no visual. If we do have a visual, we can be confident that the user wasn't simply put off by the long text in the To-Do.

• [x] Publishing the "form" guidance.

• [x] Speaking with Research dept to set a plan to test/survey/analyze user-friendliness of the new template ("forms" guidance will be our first trial).

• [ ] Adding the same guidance that was added to the newly-formatted forms guide to the one that is CURRENTLY published. Purpose: so that test users see the same exact info on both guidances, and because the only difference is how that information is presented, we can infer that their comments will be more related to the format than the information per se.

• [ ] Add "anatomy" section to new template

• [ ] Add "guidance" section, as per Beza

Productive meeting with Melissa and Maria on the Research team. Brief personal work background intros and then moved into the DS Guides survey/testing/analytics.

I opened door to them to determine the types of questions to head into a correct direction on the template. I did mention the most important answers I'm looking for:

1. Were you able to find what you were looking for?
2. Is this format (i.e. template) easier than the previous format?
3. What would you change about this format (template)?

Maria and Melissa's questions to me:

1. Who are the stakeholders? A: in my mind it's developers/designers who use our system.
2. Timeline? A: a good q for Scott. We are just starting to get a developer to develop the interactive component for the do's and don'ts. Only then is it a good time to start.

Maria and Melissa said our talk was enough of a starting point and expressed they like the project and how it is framed (around the user).

Next steps:

• [ ] Write Taylor about A/B testing the Forms guidance and also let her know about the Research team and that maybe she could be called on to come up with questions that will give us unbiased answers.

• [ ] Research will calendar a meeting with me when they have some options to show me. They said to invite whoever I think would want to influence the template and/or would approve/reject/resist.
