2 weeks ago I've been able to work around this by simply downloading the local update site, for the 4.31 release. It installs fine from that. It's still a bit of an annoying workaround. Where can I get the local update site for the current snapshot version, to compare against what I'm installing from marketplace?

2 weeks ago If I understand correctly, you have Eclipse 4.32 and are trying to install Groovy Development Tools from the marketplace. The marketplace entry was auto-updated to link 4.32 to the update site for the 4.31 tools. This has since been corrected.
Regarding the update site archives, I don't bother creating those for snapshot deployment. You can make one by downloading the code and the running mvn -Pe4.32 deploy. The site archive is located inside the Site-org.codehaus.groovy.eclipse/target folder.

6 days ago One thing I'll need to be clear on is exactly what I should be installing. When I search for Groovy in the marketplace, I only see the 5.4.0-SNAPSHOT release. Is this the one you mean?

6 days ago Although in any case, I still cannot install Groovy-Eclipse from a remote update site. It fails every time. The only way I've been able to install Groovy-Eclipse is by downloading the update site archive and using it as a local update site. This is the only plugin I've had this problem with.

6 days ago The marketplace is showing only what applies to your eclipse version. So for 4.32 (2024-06) 5.4.0-SNAPSHOT is correct. Did that fail to install as before?

5 days ago Correct, still "Can't download artifact". One thing I'm curious about, did these artifacts recently move to jfrog? We recently moved our internal artifact repo from nexus to jfrog, probably just a coincidence, just curious.

5 days ago When you go to install, is there a checkbox/option "Contact all update sites during install to find required software"? Can you run with it off?
Do you have a fresh install of 4.32? This install lists update sites for 4.31 and a bunch of other stuff. I don't know how p2 handles finding a bundle at one of these locations, but not with the expected version.

5 days ago I agree, it seems like it must be something like that, but why would it only be the artifacts for this plugin? I posed a question about this to our internal jfrog support team, but I think it's unlikely they would know. I'll try testing older versions of Eclipse, including 4.27.

5 days ago I just ran the installer for 4.27, started it, imported my saved preferences (just habit), then went to the marketplace and filtered on "groovy", it offered 5.3.0-SNAPSHOT. I installed it. It failed with the following:

5 days ago I also just tried disconnecting from VPN and changing my eclipse preferences to use "Native" connection, and it failed with the same error.
However, I also noticed that my Windows system had a proxy setting, pointing to a CGI script. I tried turning that off also. That got a slightly different result:

This looks fine so far. If I then click on "org.codehaus.groovy_4.0.20.v202403311455-e2303.jar", literally nothing happens. It doesn't move or do anything. If I right-click on it and do "copy link address" and open a new tab with that url, it shows an empty directory (which is odd, as this is supposed to be a single file). If I instead right-click and do "Save link as ..." and let it download that, when I inspect it on disk, it does appear to be a valid jar file.

For about a month now, I have been completely unable to install the groovy-eclipse plugin. I've now tried two different versions, and two different versions of Eclipse. I've tried this both within our corp firewall and outside it.
I install several other plugins, either from marketplace or the main eclipse distro update site, and I have no problems with any of them.
This is the current "Error Details" that I get, attempting to install the 4.31 version in the new 4.32 distro (I assume even if this version discrepancy wasn't quite right, it wouldn't fail to download):
