Can you specify what you did that led to the crash? We'd need some reproduction path. Also, which version of Redux is it? @caldog20, do you think you could try reproducing once there's enough reproduction information?
simply opened the application
I am on Mac Catalina(sorry)
I am on Mac Catalina(sorry)
Right, I think we require something newer than that. I'm not the MacOS guy however, so I can't really speak with full authority, but I'm almost certain this is the problem.
I would attempt to upgrade your Xcode command line tools. The cleanest way to do this to ensure a proper update would be on the command line: sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
then xcode-select --install
.
For more information on updating command line tools, see here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/42538171/how-to-update-xcode-command-line-tools
If the problem still persists, it will more than likely be due to the SDK on Catalina being too old to be supported.
I don't have Xcode
You don't need the Xcode IDE. It's the Xcode command line tools which installs the c/c++ standard library and llvm/clang compiler. Updating these may help to provide the symbols you are missing, which is causing the crash.
Xcode command line tools is a separate entity from Xcode IDE itself and it is not required to have Xcode installed to use the Xcode command-line-tools.
Other than updating those tools, I am not sure of any other solution aside from upgrading your MacOS version.
still DYLD, [0x4] Symbol missing
I am on mMini late 2012, so I cannot update
also, on earlier versions, the system says the the app is damaged
also, on earlier versions, the system says the the app is damaged
This is because the way the app is bundled for Mac was recently changed to fix that particular issue.
If you wanted to try to run an older version, you would need to strip the quarantine flag from the app.
To do this on the command line you can run : sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine PCSX-Redux.app
while in the directory you put the .app in.
@Sonic1paRadise Just FYI, I am running PCSX-Redux even on an old iMac 7,1 from 2007 perfectly well. :+1:
But of course not under Mac OS but Kubuntu 22.04 LTS.
For whatever reason it seems not possible to build PCSX-Redux in a way that it is compliant also with older Mac OS versions. In theory PCSX-Redux should be compatible down to Mac OS X Lion 10.7 which was the first Mac OS variant with full OpenGL 3.x support.
You can install a Linux Distro as the second OS on another partition. Just be sure to install it in EFI mode not legacy CSM "Bios emulation" aka "Apple Boot Camp". The best thing is that you will also get in 2023 improvements regarding the hardware drivers. So the Intel HD Graphics 4000 iGPU is still actively supported and offers rock-solid OpenGL 4.2 support. Yeah, you can also try this out with Windows 10 but the driver support for that old hardware is long EOL and the Intel OpenGL support on Windows was unfortunately not really nice. :hankey:
