There is currently a proposal (#158) to define the "beginning of a sentence" for the sake of FT questions. This arose because there was confusion as to whether a sentence can be preceded by a colon. We can add clarification to fix this issue, but I have a separate proposal that I am entering here to allow for discussion:
Current wording: 2.2.2.4.5. Finish This (FT)
Begins in the middle of a verse and finishes at the end of the verse
Must start at the beginning of a sentence or the beginning of a quotation
Proposed wording:
Begins in the middle of a verse and finishes at the end of the verse
Must contain a complete thought
Pros: Allows us to write FTs for the "Truly I tell you" verses, instead of using them as poor FTVs or just ignoring them. Less confusion regarding the different understandings of what makes a "sentence".
Cons: More ambiguity about what is a valid FT. Makes it harder for quizzers to make a list of FTs. Danger of some question writers overusing FTs.
Personally, I don't have a problem with it being harder for quizzers to generate a list of FTs. As a general rule, I'm in favour of anything that promotes studying the material over studying a list.
