5.5 Fouls - What question do fouls apply to? #203

Current language under 5.5 Fouls states: "The quizzer upon whom a foul is called becomes ineligible to jump on that question number, including any alphanumeric question numbers. The chair remains ineligible to jump on that question number, including any alphanumeric question numbers, even if the quizzer who committed the foul is substituted for."

This raises two questions:

  1. If Question 16 is a CVR and a quizzer jumps on "According", then obviously this foul applies to 16, 16A, and 16B. However, if a foul is called after the question has been read and answered (e.g. a quizzer is disruptive while the officials are deliberating), then presumably the foul would apply to the next question (so if the foul is on 16, then the foul would either apply to 16A/16B, or to 17/17A/17B, depending on whether 16 is answered correctly). Can this be clarified?

  2. The question was raised of what happens if a foul happens on a question a team has already erred on. For example, if question 10 is a toss-up, and a quizzer from the team that had erred on 9 jumps, this is a foul. Is the quizzer fouled for question 10, when he couldn't jump anyhow, or on 11/12, the next question he would have been eligible to jump on?
