Is the Japan Studies Program only open to international students? Classes within the Japan Studies Program are also open to Japanese students. Group-work components in these classes provide Japanese and international students with an opportunity to naturally build lasting connections with each other.

I only speak English; will I be able to take courses in the Japan Studies Program? All courses in the program are conducted in English. Japanese language proficiency is not a prerequisite for enrollment.

Are all classes conducted in lecture style? The Program also includes a number of hands-on courses. In particular, the Japanese Traditional Culture course teaches enrollees about elements of Japanese culture such as tea ceremony and origami through hands-on-experience. What sorts of instructors teach at the department? Classes are taught by instructors who are at the forefront of their respective fields, as well as guest lecturers who are practioners of their professional field. The program strives to balance fundamental academic content with information on the latest developments in culture, media, and technology.
