Patching channels with -a works in test (-c), but not without -c

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. iwleeprom -d 0000:03:00.0 -a -D1 -m

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expected:
Card EEPROM patched successfully

actual result:

No EEPROM actions will be performed, just write-enable test

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
latest version as available here.
OS; Debian Linux Wheezy Amd64

The card is an Intel ipw4965

sorry, I was using the trunk which apparently an older version.
I will make a new case for the branch version under Atheros.
