Thanks, but I'm unlikely to merge this as is. Conflicts with #189 which I've finally found some time to look at, and will aim to get in to 1.3 ASAP. Will adapt your tests from here into that instead though.

@lafoletc have opened #226 Should match up better with upstream PadProbe API and allow full range of options. Still want to test a few things. Be interested in your thoughts.
