is this a startup?

DuncanLithgow commented 5 years ago

If you're asking is it new, does it need funding, is it doing something new and exciting for AEC - then yes. If you're asking if an investor can make money from it - then probably no (for now). So it kinda depends on whether you're going for projects that are new and push the industry forward, or just the ones someone can make money from.

Just for context FreeCAD itself is about 16 years old. But the BIM workbench is only a few years old. There is also a FEM workbench, which is AEC relevant, but I've never used it. I've also answered on twitter. https://twitter.com/BIM_DK/status/1127316246507159552

This def looks interesting, but I would categorize as an addin and not a startup in the most stereotypical sense.

DuncanLithgow commented 5 years ago

Lots of startups aim to be addins. But BricsSys is in no sense of the term a startup - but still interesting. It really does depend on the purpose of the list. And you haven't really described the purpose of the list. It'll probably be the most up-to-date list of interesting projects for the next little while, so it'd be a shame to miss some new and interesting (and worthwhile) things. I'd like that to be the most important criteria.

I look forward to seeing how the list progresses.
