There should be (and needs to be) a way to check how long it has been since a certain source has reported data. It would be nice if this also responded to a metadata query so it would be easy to see if all sources for a certain query were still running. This also leads into the need for a "supervisord-ize" script (part of gilescmd?) that makes it easy to configure sMAP sources.
