Both of the image galleries should have some sort of filter system that displays available tags at the top of the gallery. I don't know how many tags there will be, but maybe we need to organise them in groups (for instance like in the arosenius archive, see image below). It is important that the user is able to combine several tags, for instance to first filter down to a particular language and then a particular tag within that language. Perhaps the filter interface should be hidden away in a "filter section" that can be activated or deactivated? I am not sure how this filter system will co-exist in a logical way with what the user has picked or written in the left field controls, but I suggest that any action (in any of these two systems) resets the filters in the other section.
Scenario 1: the user clicks on the image gallery and clicks on the tag "Saint" and gets to see a gallery of all the surfaces that depicts saints.
Scenario 2: the user goes to the inscription gallery and filters down to inscriptions that are undamaged.
