1797 #1488 are still occurring

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Open Explorer
  2. Right click on any file/folder (not only git folders)
  3. Explorer hangs (not responding) for 10 - 30 seconds.

What version of TortoiseGit ? 2.8.0 what operating system? Win10 version 1903 (OS build 18362.418)

I also suffered this problem, but now resolved. My case is I have added some quick access of invalid network folder in 'fast access'(I'm not sure about the translation, showed screen shot below). image After remove all network folder shortcut, the explorer turns fine.

I guess this is because when tortoise git is installed , it will check some information of all quick access folders. But some of the network folder has become invalid or it's a time-consuming task. So the explorer hanged.

Hi had the exact problem like above. I solved it by removing a network folder from "quick access" area in Explorer. I suggest to implement ignoring of quick access links in tortoiseGit shell extension. I was one step before uninstalling Tortoise git und switch to another GitGUI. But I like Tortoise so much, so I spend 2 days of troubleshooting. Using: Git-2.27.0-64-bit TortoiseGit-2.10.0.2-64bit Windows 10 Pro Version 1909

If there is no additional CPU load caused bei Git, tortoiseGit or explorer, it's probable that your are suffering under the above issue.

I can also confirm the exact same behaviour and these steps solved the issue since I wasn't connected to company VPN and shared folder pinned to quick access wasn't available.

May be fixed by https://gitlab.com/tortoisegit/tortoisegit/-/merge_requests/148. Also may restrict settings to fixed drive only - see https://tortoisegit.org/docs/tortoisegit/tgit-dug-settings.html#tgit-dug-settings-overlay
