The git config tabs are not easy to understand #473

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open the TortoiseGit settings
2. Try to find settings

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Config tab:
- The Git settings could be moved more to the top
- AutoCrfl + SafeCrlf are git internals. Better have a group of radiobuttons
with "convert CrLf to bla.."
- Save as global checkbox should be implemented as a two tree nodes (Local
settings / Global settings)

Remote tab:
- Add New / Remove buttons are floating disassociated with the list.
- "Add New" does not add a new list item as expected, but operates as "save"
button.
- top "Remote" label -> "Remotes.
- field "Remote" label -> "Name"
- Url needs a browse button for local files, and show them in Windows path
style.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

TortoiseGit 1.4.4.0

Please provide any additional information below.

Consider looking at GitExtensions for inspiration.
It doesn't do things perfect either, but does have good idea's in it.

Amending: with "move more to top" I actually referred to the complete "Git"
node, not the "Config" node.

In the left side tree, there is one "config" node. I think it should have two:
a "Local settings" and a "Global settings" node.

Will try 1.5.2.0 ASAP! Thanks!

If there are two nodes, "local settings" and "Global settings" node, user don't
know what is current value.

For example, if user set autocrlf true at local settings and autocrlf false at
global settings, user have to go through two page global settings and local
settings to get autocrlf value.

I'm sure there is a nice middle way for this :) The checkbox is not clear
either.
