RSS Parrot is not responding to messages #52

Open jotaemei opened 2 months ago

It has happened a couple times before, but I was too busy to file the issue. However, here's the latest: I sent a request for the feed https://mass.streetsblog.org/feed on 2024-06-03 at 23:40 ET, which was not responded to. Just for reference, it's 2024-06-04, 11:40 ET (12 hours later) now. My handle is jotaemei@social.coop, and the lack of response can be verified at RSS Parrot's Post and replies timeline.

I can't find any error related to the toot from your account in the service's log. I just requested the feed myself and it was correctly retrieved; it is now being parroted at @mass.streetsblog.org@rss-parrot.net (https://rss-parrot.net/web/feeds/mass.streetsblog.org)

Can you share a screenshot of the message you sent to the birb? You can email it directly to rss.parrot at gmail.

Can you try requesting the same feed again?

jotaemei commented 2 months ago

Is it OK if I just post the screenshot here?

gugray commented 2 months ago

sure, just didn't want to request posting it in a public location

OK. I tried sending the message again. No response. Additionally, what can be seen here is an unacknowledged request from last month (May 2, 2024). The last time it worked for me was in March. Was the private message capability deactivated?

can you paste the actual text that you are sending? this is what i used:

@birb@rss-parrot.net https://mass.streetsblog.org/feed
jotaemei commented 2 months ago

Sure. What I do is reply to birb, and that had been working until some time next after March 22.

The following screenshot shows the results of hovering the pointer over @ birb, which is that the message was sent to @birb@rss-parrot.net. image

And, this following screenshot shows the results of hovering the pointer over mass.streetsblog.org/feed, which is that the provided RSS url was https://mass.streetsblog.org/feed. image

Hmm. Well, I just posted a new PM without doing so as a reply and with the following contents:

@birb@rss-parrot.net https://mass.streetsblog.org/feed

And, now it worked. IDK. Perhaps something changed over the past 3 months so birb would no longer be able to handle requests through replies.

Is this not a known issue or was not an intentional change? Well, if it's a bug that I wound up reporting, then I hope this information helps.

Thank you so much for your time addressing this issue today for for creating birb!

Everything good to you.

Peace and blessings.

ah, yes, that must be it! and i did indeed change that behavior recently. it often happened that people were mentioning the @birb in a conversation, e.g., to mention the service to someone, or to to comment on something. it was annoying that they all got a reply from the birb whenever that happened.

so since the change the birb only replies if it is addressed in a message that's not a response to an earlier toot.
