guidosch / bikecounter

This repository contains the hardware and software components of a PIR based tracking device to monitor the usage of local bike trails. The data is sent over LoRaWAN to TTN and from there to a Google Cloud backend which stores the data and provides api endpoints for the data visualization web UI.

Test some other antennas with more gain to see if this helps. (Additional advantage: pass through connector)

Antenna test results: Arduino Antenna: In the attic at my house (horizontal antenna alignment) T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 T10 T11 T12 avg
RSSI [dBm] -119 -105 -118 -105 -105 -108 -103 -107 -118 -118 -111 -107 -107.5
SNR [dBm] -6.5 -10.25 -9.25 -10.5 -10.25 -8.5 -10.75 -10 -9.5 -6.5 -10.5 -9 -9.04
ANT-868-OC-LG-SMA Antenna: In the attic at my house (vertical antenna alignment) T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 T10 T11 T12 avg
RSSI [dBm] -125 -117 -119 -130 -125 -125 -128 -119 -120 -119 -126 -128 -121.6
SNR [dBm] -12.5 -10.5 -11.5 -16.2 -12.2 -13.5 -10.5 -11.8 -11.8 -9.8 -11.8 -12.5 -11.8

25.6 times worse than the Arduino antenna

ANT-8/9-SPNF2 Antenna In the attic at my house (vertical antenna alignment) T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 T10 T11 T12 avg
RSSI [dBm] -123 -114 -112 -111 -111 -108 -117 -113 -117 -111 -118 -105 -111.1
SNR [dBm] -1.75 2.5 -5 0.75 -7 1 -6.75 -0.5 -7 1.25 -3.5 -1.5 -1.15

The RSSI is similar to the Arduino antenna (a bit worse 2.3-times) but the SNR is 6-times better.

I will mount the ANT-8/9-SPNF2 antenna to a device to get some field measurements and see if this improves the Adlisberg-Trail situation.
